New York Cops Run Over Groundhog During Police Union Golf Tournament

In a callous and macabre disregard for life, two New York police officers were seen chasing down and intentionally running over a groundhog with a golf cart.

The incident occurred during a Rensselaer police union golf tournament Friday, so it probably won’t be long before the union informs us that the groundhog was somehow threatening the lives of the officers.

It’s just going to be hard to spin the story when it was witnessed by William Meissner, the former head of the Troy Housing Authority, who posted the following on Facebook, according to the New York Daily News.

“While playing Frear Park golf course today, I witnessed two people in a golf cart chase down a woodchuck until it couldn’t run anymore,” said Meissner, “and then they ran over it with their golf cart. The woodchuck managed to crawl about ten feet and rolled around a little before it died.”

The Frear Park Golf Course is owned by the city of Troy. Frear Park employees stated a groundhog corpse was found in the area where visitors described the incident.

While groundhogs are a problematic for groundskeepers, however they are harmless creatures that are afraid of humans.

The annual golf tournament attracted 84 people, including some attendees who were not police officers.

Troy City Council President Carmella Mantello stated officials were informed of the incident after witnesses stated two men were seen intentionally driving the golf cart at the animal, while also damaging property in the process.

Rensselaer officials have not released the names of anyone involved or others in attendance, only assuring the public that it’s under investigation.

Officials stated the officers in attendence are providing conflicting statements regarding the malicious incident.

Meanwhile, Rensselaer Police Chief Rick Fusco is asking for the public’s help in identifying the cops who ran the groundhog down, showing he either has no control over his department or is hiding behind the usual Blue Wall of Silence.
