Dear Readers,Screen Shot 2016-03-31 at 1.48.22 PM

As you might have just noticed a major change in – amongst our ever changing and evolving news website. Today we replaced Disqus which has powered our comments for many years with a new service called Spot.IM.

If you’ve seen the little red box with a white plus sign (like so on the right) that is the flag open Spot.IM’s amazing addition to PINAC News.

Click the red flag, and you’ll open the PINAC Newsfeed bar, which shows most recent comments and stories  from any page on the site.

Firstly, it’s faster and just plain looks better on our site, and it allows the page to load, while it loads quietly in the background. We are hoping everyone will notice the speed improvement first.Screen Shot 2016-03-31 at 1.48.29 PM

Second and most importantly, it allows for better notifications of comments, and real time chat and gives the site a nice realtime capability to display what’s happening to all commenters and readers, and to those of us writing the stories too, to increase our ability to all interact without a middle man like Facebook whose comment system is slower and isn’t anonymous ever.

Lastly, all previous comments and handles are still there.

You can customize your commenter profile, connect social media or more.

AND because we care about our readers, for those who wish to say leave comments without having some crazy troll or anti-troll track down the color of petunias on your doorstep and mail it to your grandmothers with a fish wrapped in newspaper, YES, Spot.IM does allow anonymous comments – but only with registration

That lets our moderators call balls and strikes as they’ve been doing for many many years – and as we had already implemented in Disqus recently in response to user feedback.

We hope you enjoy this new site feature and please leave us your feedback on the comment system here today, and anytime something is going on related to comments!
